Poll: Hispanics largely unaware of ACA subsidies

To help people afford the cost of health insurance through the exchanges, the federal government is providing subsidies for people who qualify. However, according to a recent survey, few Hispanic-Americans are aware of this fact.

More than half of Hispanics with insurance - 51 percent - said they were unaware of potentially being able to buy insurance with the help of government resources, according to health company HolaDoctor. This may be something that many people within in the Latino community will take advantage of, as more than two-thirds of respondents said they were in favor of the Affordable Care Act.

"These statistics show us that the Hispanic community is open to ObamaCare, but they still need more information in order to really understand the law and enroll in the health insurance exchanges," said Dirk Schroeder, executive vice president and chief medical officer at HolaDoctor.

More details about subsidy eligibility can be found at HealthCare.gov.

In February, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced 95 percent of Latinos may qualify for financial assistance, helping to lower their healthcare expenses.
