Survey: More than half of Americans opposed to ACA

According to a new Gallup poll, only 43 percent of Americans support the Affordable Care Act, with the majority of people disapproving of the healthcare reform legislation's impact on health insurance benefits. This is down from the end of March when an ABC News/Washington Post survey uncovered 49 percent of people were in favor of the ACA.

Gallup asked 1,009 Americans in early April about their impression about the healthcare law, and noted feelings about the legislation continue to be mixed across party lines. Nearly 80 percent of those affiliated with the Democratic party said they approved of the law, with 87 percent of Republicans having a negative view of the ACA. In addition, 69 percent of Democrats said the legislation will end up improving the nation's healthcare situation, while 77 percent of Republicans said the opposite. The majority of Independents are opposed to the law; 65 percent are against the ACA, and 53 percent think it will only make the U.S. healthcare situation worse.

The previous ABC News/Washington Post poll uncovered similar findings on political party affiliation. ABC News reported Independents are mostly opposed to the legislation, with 54 percent saying they were against the law in the poll.
