CDC Makes Pfizer Booster Shot Recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a statement recommending a distribution plan for Pfizer booster shots. The booster is recommended for specific vulnerable populations and those in high-risk institutional and occupational settings.

The CDC recommends the following populations should receive a Pfizer booster shot at least six months after their Pfizer primary series:

  • People aged 65 and older and residents in long-term care settings
  • People aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions

The CDC recommends the following populations may receive a Pfizer booster shot at least six months after their Pfizer primary series:

  • People aged 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions
  • People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings.

This action means that Pfizer booster doses will become available soon for eligible individuals. Individuals should monitor updates from local health officials for information on vaccine distribution. Vaccine booster recommendations for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are still pending.
