Please note that this article only applies to the state of Washington. 

Washington amended its wage and hour laws to increase the salary threshold that white collar employees must satisfy to qualify for the state’s overtime exemption.

The updated salary levels will depend on employer size and will be based on the state minimum wage rate. With a $13.50 per hour minimum wage beginning on January 1, 2020, the threshold for the white collar exemptions will be $675 per week or $35,100 per year starting on July 1, 2020. The threshold for the white collar exemptions in Washington will rise as the minimum rate increases.

Employers may want to review their employee salaries and responsibilities to ensure they are classified properly and update your payroll practices accordingly.
