CT health exchange promotion expands to the beach

While numerous states are trying to keep costs low when promoting the health insurance exchange, Connecticut has decided to adopt an unconventional approach to increase awareness about insurance benefits.

According to The Associated Press, the exchange created a plan to promote the state-run program at state beaches. With many U.S. workers still unaware of how the Affordable Care Act with impact their healthcare coverage, Connecticut's exchange hopes that providing information about the program in public places with improve resident participation.

The AP reported outreach teams plan to give out information about the ACA and how enrolling in the exchange may benefit residents. The teams will provide beach goers with sunscreen and showcase an aerial banner depicting the phrase "Get Covered!" to encourage people to enroll in the exchange come Oct. 1. According to the news source, the teams plan on frequenting the beaches on the weekends in August.

In an op-ed piece for the Farmington Valley Times, a Connecticut-based news source, state Sen. Kevin Witkos encouraged residents to take advantage of the exchange to receive the right coverage.
