COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Eligible California Students

COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Eligible California Students

1.5 minute read

California is the first state to announce that all eligible students will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19, potentially starting next fall. The mandate is effective for grades 7-12 for both private and public schools. Once a vaccine is approved for younger children, the mandate would extend to students in kindergarten through 6th grade.

This vaccination requirement is different from other mandates because parents can cite personal beliefs as a reason for not vaccinating their children.

California residents with school-aged children should be prepared for the upcoming vaccination requirement. It’s possible that this mandate will face legal challenges before its rollout in 2022.

This could be a sign of how other states could impose their own mandates on public and private institutions in the future.
