Family-friendly Benefits in Demand

1.5 minute read

A new report by Ovia Health by Labcorp (Ovia) shows that employees are looking for company benefits and policies that support their families. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of American workers would leave their current jobs for family-friendly workplace benefits.

Many employees (62%) find their employer lacking in family-friendly benefits, with nearly half (43%) rating their benefits as average or below. Working parents are specifically seeking longer parental leave, better flexibility policies, and childcare support.

While parental leave is commonly associated with the arrival of a newborn, the survey participants highlighted the importance of broadening the perspective on benefits. Statistics reveal that 10%-20% of pregnancies result in miscarriage, underscoring the need for enhanced support in maternity management to proactively identify risks and provide necessary intervention for pregnancy loss.

There is also growing demand for family-building benefits like adoption, foster, and surrogacy support. One-third of respondents find these benefits important, but only 5%-14% of employees can access them. Today's workers seek unbiased support and alternative family planning options, such as adoption and surrogacy.

Employer Takeaway

The Ovia report emphasizes the importance of fostering a family-friendly culture to enhance retention, productivity, and engagement. Employers can enhance their benefits package by including nutrition, health screenings, and menopause support. It's important for organizations to show a clear commitment to their workforce's health to attract workers seeking family-friendly support. Employers should regularly assess employees' needs and adjust their health benefits strategy accordingly. Download the bulletin for more details.
