Grand Rounds Helps Employees Avoid Opioid Abuse

opioid epidemic

National Insurance Services has partnered with Grand Rounds to help our clients reduce their health insurance claims. In this article, Grand Rounds discusses how they are helping to reverse the opioid epidemic.

Opioid abuse has grown into a national public health emergency.

  • 90 Americans die every day from opioid overdose1
  • More than 1,000 are treated in the emergency room daily for misusing prescription opioids1
  • As many as 1 in 4 people struggle with addiction (who have received long-term opioid prescriptions)1

The epidemic is partly due to the prescribing methods of U.S. doctors over the past 20 years. State, federal, and pain management guidelines “have cautioned against the liberal use of prescription opioids for years, yet physicians have continued to escalate their prescriptions, ignoring the mounting evidence and consensus guidelines.”2

Grand Rounds is playing their part to help reverse the opioid epidemic by helping patients with chronic pain find effective alternative health care. They also want to help steer “patients away from dangerous prescribers and towards high-quality physicians before they are even prescribed opioids” in the first place.2
