The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently issued an updated version of [Form I-9: Employment Eligibility Verification](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9). This form must be completed by every employer who hires an individual for employment in the United States. [Form I-9](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9) is used for verifying the individual’s identity and employment authorization. Employers should start using this [updated form ](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9)effective September 18, 2017.

The [updated form](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9) contains revisions to the instructions and to the list of acceptable documents an employee can provide. [Here’s what’s changing.](https://blog.nisbenefits.com/hubfs/Blog%20-%20supporting%20documents/blog%20resource%20I-9%20-%20employee%20eligibility.pdf) Employers must continue their compliance with collecting and retaining Form I-9.
