The United States has declared monkeypox a Public Health Emergency. The declaration will help mobilize more resources to fight the outbreak. There are currently more than 6,600 cases in 48 states.

Symptoms usually include fever, headache, chills, backache, and swollen lymph nodes. The incubation period is usually around 7-14 days. It can spread by respiratory secretions, direct contact with the person infected, or touching objects or surfaces that the infected person used.

For prevention, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing hands thoroughly, avoiding skin-to skin contact with people who have a rash that looks like monkeypox, and avoid contact with all objects and materials touched by someone infected.

Employers can monitor the CDC website for further updates and information. Download the bulletin for more details.
