Kentucky has been one of the most successful examples of state-run health insurance marketplaces. Because of this success, Carrier Banahan, executive director of insurance exchange in the state, said she wanted to share her experiences, according to Courier-Journal.

During a Families USA meeting, Banahan said the use of call centers as central stations of information and assistance to help consumers understand and navigate the site. Xerox is currently contracted to run Kynect's call center and has helped Kentuckians purchase policies with its growing staff of more than 150 workers.

Emerging as another vocal advocate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the state's Gov. Steve Beshear, who has publicly stated he views the ACA as a service that will help the people in his state, according to Politico. In fact, Beshear has been such a staunch supporter of the Obama administration's healthcare reform that he received a call from the President to congratulate the Governor on his successful state-run exchange.

"He said Kentucky is showing the way here and is showing the nation that this can work and it will work," Gov. Beshear said. "I thanked him, because he and the Congress gave me the opportunity to do this."
