A panel of vaccine experts endorsed a low-dose Pfizer vaccine shot for children ages 5-11. Next, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must decide if they agree with the endorsement.

This announcement could potentially affect 28 million children. And it comes at a time when some school districts have already announced vaccination mandates among eligible students.

The FDA is expected to accept the endorsement within days. After that, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will make a final decision. If the CDC agrees with the FDA, shots could become available immediately.
