The Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury Department jointly issued new FAQs regarding the contraceptive coverage mandate under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA requires non-grandfathered plans to cover certain women’s preventive health services without cost sharing, including FDA-approved contraceptives.

The FAQs also discuss the enforcement actions that could apply for noncompliance including possible penalties. They also provide steps that individuals can take if they have difficulty accessing contraceptive coverage through their health insurance.
