Physical activity is good for your body and mind. Research has shown that exercise can improve mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and a negative mood. Including exercise into your everyday routine will give you both physical and mental well-being benefits. Here are some mental health benefits of exercise:

  • Boost Mood: Exercise triggers mood-boosting chemicals in your brain that make you feel happy.
  • Reduce Stress: Physical activity can reduce the levels of stress hormones in your body.
  • Sleep Better: Exercise can help you regulate your sleep patterns and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. Try to exercise at least one to two hours before bed to give your brain time to wind down.
  • Memory Improvement: Endorphins can help you concentrate and feel mentally sharp for work or other tasks.
  • Provide More Energy: Increasing your heart rate and boosting oxygen circulation in your body can make you feel more energized.
  • Higher Self-Esteem: When exercise becomes a habit, you may feel more powerful, confident, and accomplished when you meet your fitness goals.
  • Stronger Resilience: Exercise can help build resilience and cope with mental or emotional challenges instead of turning to unhealthy behaviors.

Any movement or exercise can be beneficial to your mental well-being. Exercise can take your mind off your problems or negative thoughts by redirecting them to the activity at hand.
