Cal/OSHA Amends COVID-19 Notice and Reporting Requirements

California approved Assembly Bill 654 to amend California’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) COVID-19 reporting and notice regulations. The bill became effective October 5, 2021.

The bill required employers to give notice of COVID-19 outbreaks to:

• Local public health agencies within 48 hours or one business day, whichever is later; and
• Qualifying individuals or employees exposed to qualifying individuals within one business day.

The bill also expands the list of employers who are exempt from outbreak reporting requirements including:

• Child day care facilities
• Community clinics
• Adult day health centers
• Community care facilities
