Sample Health Care Reform Employee Communication for School Districts

Although many of the ACA provisions don’t go into effect until January 1, 2014, many school districts may discuss their new health plan when the teachers and other employees come back to school in the fall. While the employer mandate delay eases some of the pressure on employers, your employees have some decisions to make and may not have all the information they need to make smart decisions.

School districts may consider sharing ACA information with their employees at the beginning of the school year, ideally as part of the non-student, in-service days when time is allotted for the distribution, reading and questions related to the information. This time is also practical since employees are in a central location.

Being proactive with information at the start of the school year may save the district the embarrassment of being unprepared when questions are asked in large group meetings. Additionally, it may also be more efficient reducing the number of repetitive questions made by individual employees.
