With less than a week remaining in this year's open enrollment period, an organization that's supportive of the Affordable Care Act is pulling out all the stops to help more people get health insurance benefits.
The nonprofit charitable organization Enroll America recently launched its "Countdown to Get Covered Series," wherein representatives visit 27 metro areas and host events that should enable more people to get the coverage they need before March 31.
Jeannine Gage of Enroll America, who's organized the campaign, indicated the program is a tool to heighten awareness.
"So many people without insurance still don't know that they may benefit from the Affordable Care Act," said Gage. "We encourage them to attend our enrollment events and tell them about the financial assistance that's available. Then they can either enroll themselves on their home computer or with the assistance of an in-person expert."
Roughly 85 percent of people who have selected health plans through the exchanges since October have been eligible for subsidies to offset the cost of coverage, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
