For working parents, back-to-school season brings new routines, busy schedules, and challenging transitions that can make balancing work and caregiving especially tough.

Work-life balance means prioritizing both career and personal needs. It reduces stress and improves well-being, especially for parents juggling work and back-to-school responsibilities. Here are some tips to help working parents manage during this busy season.

Set a Schedule

Adjust your work hours, if possible, to better align with your children's school and activity schedules, such as being home when they return from school. Prioritize sleep for your family's well-being. Adjust bedtimes to support healthy rest and discuss schedule changes with your manager as needed.

Communicate Your Needs

Talk with your employer about adjusting your schedule during the school year. Most are open to helping you manage these changes and can offer support or resources.

Review Workplace Policies

Review your workplace policies and available resources for emergencies during the school year. If you have questions, contact your manager or Human Resources.

Prioritize Your Health

While adapting to your children’s schedule, don’t neglect your own health. Prioritize sleep, nutrition, exercise, and time outdoors. Set realistic expectations and find a balance that fits your family.

Get Help

If possible, consider external help, such as childcare, transportation, or errand services, to free up more quality time with your family.
